On November 8th, 2024, up-and-coming indie band Babe City (Mia Tims, Jackson Cathcart, and Theo Hoffstrom) released their charming debut, LB I Love You Forever. Filled with smooth two-toned electric synth, I Love You Forever is a campy indie mess in the best way possible. Highlighted by track titles such as “Envy Adams Goes Insane” and “Kiss Me Again,” I Love You Forever is a stunning mix of electric instrumentals and deeper “in-your-feelings” tracks that hit all the right spots.
The three members of the band, all NYU students, found each other their freshman year. They connected over a class several of them had been in, in which they were forced to write two songs a week. “A lot of the album songs were written that way. We would collaborate on one or two a week,” Tims comments.
The debut album includes catchy songs that give off a similar sound to that of Beabadoobee, a British singer/songwriter. I Love You Forever is also full of yearning, with romantic songs such as “Kiss Me Again” and “Make It Clear.” I Love You Forever feels like three friends came together with the sole goal of having fun, since the album isn’t super emotionally heavy, which some can offer as a critique; however, we believe that it’s one of Babe City’s strengths.
Along with their album, Babe City has embarked on a nationwide tour, playing venues across the country in clubs and small music venues. When asked by New Noise Magazine about their recent spur of showings, lead singer Mia Tims responded, “It’s the best way to reach people. Ultimately, what’s the best way to get people to hear your music? In the flesh, at small shows, big shows—anywhere you can.”
Babe City’s charm is on full display in their recently released music video for their lead single, “Kiss Me Again.” Filmed with 70s polaroid charm, set in New York, and starring Hoffstrom and Tims, this video perfectly captures the album’s spirit. The indie music scene is ever-increasing, and artists across the world are experimenting with unique styles of this blossoming genre. Babe City has really captured this excitement, putting their own little touch on the sound and giving us listeners a wonderful experience that we can go through on repeat without it getting old. Babe City will be the next big thing to come out of the New York indie scene, so cash in and give I Love You Forever a listen before all the fake fans come along.
