We all know that lunch block is one of the most crucial 30 minutes in the school day; some students spend it cramming homework before a fourth-period test or visiting one of the many dining establishments around campus, while others dine on the cafeteria’s delectable selection of food. Whatever your choice, we’re sure anyone can use this guide. In this article, we set out to tackle the most scrumptious meals, from the well-known classics like Pulled Pork Wednesdays (PPW) to the new and elusive ramen bar.
Taco/Tamale Tuesday: 4.73/5 Falcons
As I write this review on Tuesday, October 8th, my fingers quiver, and my eyes tear up at the thought of being stuck with fish tacos as the new norm rather than chicken or beef. My opinion may be controversial, but Taco Tuesday is almost always better than PPW for one primary reason: the flavor profile has much more depth due to the contrasting spices and textures. The crisp, crunchy onion and pepper contrasts the soft rice while providing a sweet, almost fruity addition to the savory grilled chicken.
PPW (Pulled Pork Wednesday): 4.28/5 Falcons
While there is no denying the influence PPWs have on the culture at CRLS and the lines it induces, I only partially understand the hype, and the dish does not greatly move me. The pork is dry and begs for a squirt of sauce. My tough love for the pork seems to show, as every Wednesday, I wait in line to fill my stomach with the addictive meat.. The pairing is what pushes this meal into the hall of fame; The Mac ‘n’ Cheese is a beloved staple that faces nearly no criticism from those surveyed. The Mac ‘n’ Cheese’s comforting creamy texture, al dente macaroni, and groovy attitude definitely try to steal the spotlight in this lunch.
Shepherd’s pie: 4/5 Falcons
Simply a masterpiece. The pie is a perfect combination of mashed potato, meat, peas, and carrots, making the most delightful meal. Taking your first bite is a transcendental experience, altering your worldview and leaving you feeling like a brand new person. My first bite whisked me away to the land of colonialism and beans on toast. Albeit a tad greasy, it’s nothing some handy salt and pepper can’t fix! A little spice in your shepherd’s pie never hurt anyone.
Sandwich Bar: 4.5/5 Falcons
While the sandwich might not always be fully cut, and the guacamole is as rare as a unicorn sighting (especially for us lunch C people), you cannot deny the range of possibilities the sandwich bar offers. Some may argue that they’re cold and the line is never worth it, but the diversity and flexibility of the sandwich bar is what makes it such a wonderful option. On days when you’re not feeling any other lunch option, a nice, refreshing, handmade sandwich is the best way to go.
