With prom on the horizon, the Register Forum asked 50 seniors a variety of questions about their plans for the event. This data was taken by a single person (yours truly) who allowed seniors to opt into answering questions. The questions were built around five initial seniors and were then standardized. Data included in this article should not be considered a representation of all seniors, but rather a glimpse into the plans of some.
The most interesting question to ask was, “Do you have a date, and if so, what kind?” The categories for this question were trickier to set, but “date-love,” “date-friend,” “date-aesthetic,” and “TBD” emerged. Date-love references couples who like each other romantically, to which 13 girls and 10 boys classified their dates. Date friend is relatively self-explanatory and contains 6 girls, 3 boys, and 1 non-binary person. Date-aesthetic refers to anyone who acquired their date for the appearance of having one, such as for photos and includes 2 girls and 1 boy. 4 girls and 10 boys said TBD, with one boy telling the Register Forum, “Lowkey this random girl asked me and I said sure.”
Let us begin with the ladies. Of the 25 seniors who identified as female, 2 said their dress color was light yellow, 6 black, 4 red, 1 pink, 2 green, 1 multiple colors or a pattern, 7 blue, 1 silver, and 1 purple. Of these, 7 described their dress as being sparkly or sequined, and 18 described it as not. When asked to categorize hairstyles into up-up (updos), up-down (partially up and partially down), or down-down (primarily down), 6 said the first, 7 said the second, 11 said the third, and 1 said TBD. Next, nail shape: 13 said almond, 3 said pointed (stiletto), 2 said square, 1 said natural unshaped, and 6 said TBD. 2 responded silver in color, 2 plain French, 2 French with designs, 4 pink, 1 green, 2 blue, 2 multiple colors or a pattern, 1 gold, 1 white, 1 purple, and 7 TBD. When asked about their shoe style, 24 responded heels and 1 responded boots. Of the 24 heel-wearers, 5 said kitten-heel, 7 said block-heel, 5 said stiletto, and 7 said TBD. In this category, all respondents who said heels also said they would consider bringing flat shoes or socks to change intoduring the evening. To the question of shoe type, 8 said closed-toe, 12 said open-toe, 5 said TBD and all heels were at or under 4”.
Now, on to the gentlemen. Of the 24 seniors asked who identified as male and 1 who identified as non-binary, 9 said they were wearing bow-ties, 13 said ties, and 3 said TBD. When asked about suit color, 13 said black, 1 said yellow-ish (categorized as “the man in the yellow hat suit” by a friend of the respondent’s), 2 said a different colored jacket than pants, 1 said green, 5 said blue, and 3 said TBD. 22 said they were wearing dress shoes, 1 said sneakers, 1 said Doc Martens and 1 said TBD.
