With the winter season in the rear-view mirror, CRLS is preparing for another exciting spring of athletic competition across numerous sports. On the field, the Falcons will trot out baseball, softball, lacrosse, rugby, and outdoor track & field teams. The lacrosse and rugby teams provide opportunities in growing sports, while the baseball and softball teams allow students to excel on the diamond. CRLS has a long tradition of producing strong boys and girls outdoor track teams. Lalo Garskof ’26, who runs track, told the Register Forum that some people had more time to prepare for the spring season than others, as some runners qualified for state and national indoor track meets, which continued after the winter season typically ends. During preseason, one of the main focuses for the team was endurance, for people who ran slightly longer distances, as many already had decent acceleration.
Over on the courts, CRLS has varsity and junior varsity levels for both boys and girls tennis during the spring season. Alonso Berry ’27, a top freshman in Massachusetts, told the Register Forum that most of the team is solid and can hold their own, but unfortunately, they only have one actual tournament player. When it comes to his personal goals he says that he hopes to be number one on the varsity team, and to try to stand his ground against top talents from other schools.
CRLS offers a couple of unique spring sports opportunities as well. The school features a fledgling boys’ volleyball program that has become one of the best in the state. Brennan Loud ’26, who played varsity volleyball as a freshman, told the Register Forum that the team could be a force to be reckoned with, as long as they stick to their playing style and stay consistent. In terms of the bond of the team, he says, “I like to think that the team is quite close, we practice a lot together and also build personal chemistry.” For students interested in water sports, the sailing and crew teams take advantage of the school’s location near the Charles River.
No matter the sport, CRLS aims to field competitive teams across the board during the spring athletic campaign. The coaches and players will work hard to represent the city of Cambridge well through their efforts on and off their respective fields, courts, and waters. Spring is an exciting time for high school sports, and CRLS provides its students with a multitude of options to stay active, compete for their school, and enjoy the warm weather. The various spring sports teams are gearing up for action once again. See you on the playing field!
