Homecoming is back with a bang! On Friday, November 3rd, homecoming was hosted by the student government in the Media Cafe, and all grades were encouraged to participate. Tickets were sold at the door for $10, while pre-order tickets were $7. This year, the theme of homecoming was “Believe in the Magic.” Students were encouraged to dress up in colorful and whimsical outfits that encapsulated the enchanting nature of a school dance. After last year’s homecoming, the student government worked hard to deliver students a fun and pleasant dance despite the lackluster venue and funds. Although not perfect to many, Homecoming was still an enjoyable and memorable experience that made it worthwhile.
The general reception of homecoming was positive. Aurora Velez-Islam ‘27, told the Register Forum, “It was fun … I think that what really made the party was the people there. The vibes were good.” Caroline Rogers ’27 shared the same sentiment, noting to the Register Forum, “I think it was kind of a hoot.” Rogers added, “I feel like a lot of people went in expecting amazing stuff to happen, but came out disappointed. But if you were the party, you had a lot of fun.”
Many people also seemed to like the music and the new DJ, a definite improvement from last year’s. Zoe Bougher ’27 expressed to the Register Forum, “I liked the dance… [it had a] carefree environment and [felt] mostly good [and] inviting.” She thought that the DJ made things “fun” and “more interactive.”
On the other hand, everything seemed to go smoothly for the administration side of things as well. Eden Abraham ’25 reported to the Register Forum, “I was a part of the hosting team, and from what I saw, most of the students were really enjoying their time and I thought that it was really successful.” Compared to last year’s homecoming, Abraham expressed, “I think that it was still really good…It was overall really successful. We cleaned up on time, we set it up on time, and everything just went smoothly.”
However, despite the numerous satisfied reviews, there still were some drawbacks. Most students commented on the lack of activities and general poor funding and communication of the event, an unfortunate pattern found in most school dances. Zaida Pingitore ’27 emphasized to the Register Forum, “I feel like [making] the water 50 cents was an odd decision … It wasn’t a price problem since you could refill it, but not a lot of people carried around cash. A heads up would’ve been nice.” Rogers added, “I think for next year, adding a ping pong table or some activity would [be better]. It was a little dry sometimes.”
Homecoming 2023 had some flaws, but students had an overall positive experience with the people, music, and fun atmosphere it provided. Additionally, this year’s homecoming was the second homecoming held since 2018, and with the success of this dance, it provides hope for many dances to come.
