On October 8th, the CRLS Rowing team woke up bright and early and headed out to the New England Jr./HS/Masters Championship Regatta at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. Once the sun rose, it proved to be a quintessential fall day. Thanks to the lovely volunteers, the team was served a lovely breakfast of hash browns, fruit, and breakfast bagel sandwiches before the first races of the day.
At 8:00 AM, the varsity girls raced two quads (4-person boats) that placed 7th and 8th out of nine boats in their race with times of 17:30.0 and 19:01.2, respectively. All the races were over a 4,200m course on the Merrimack River. The Cambridge Varsity Girls team raced again at 8:25, 8:35, and 8:45 in fours, placing 2nd overall (out of 22, 13, and 4 boats total) with times of 16:47.1, 17:29.4, and 18:34.2, respectively.
Cambridge Boys Varsity raced around 9:00 AM. The first varsity (the strongest boat) placed 5th out of 28 with a time of 15:26.8, the second varsity boat placed 8th out of twelve boats with a time of 17:36.1, and the third varsity placed 2nd out of three boats with a time of 18:31.
After another great meal of chili and hamburgers, Cambridge novices went out on the water for their first race of the season. Women’s novices raced at 1:30 PM in an eight (a boat with eight people) and placed 13th out of fourteen boats with a time of 20:47, and men’s novices also raced in an eight at 1:40 PM, placing 7th out of 19 boats with a time of 16:34.3.
For the final race of the day, Cambridge Boys Varsity sent out an eight that placed 15th out of 25 boats with a time of 14:50 minutes. The team then loaded up all the boats and finally came home after a long day. Overall, it was a great day for the rowers, and we can’t wait to see how they perform over the rest
