Math Problem of the Month: February 2023

There is a log that is 10 meters long from left to right. Every 1 second, for 10 seconds, an ant from the left side and an ant from the right side of the log will start to walk across the log at a speed of 1 meter per second (these are some very fast ants). When 2 ants collide (ants can’t go around each other on the log), they both immediately turn around and go in the opposite direction at the same speed of 1 meter per second. When an ant gets to one end of the log (which can be the same end that it started at), it walks off the log. How long does it take for all the ants to get off the log?

Come to Math Club at 3 PM on Wednesday in Room 3607 to discuss this problem!
