Sailing
This fall, the CRLS co-ed Sailing team, similar to all CRLS fall sports teams, was forced to adapt in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions put in place by the city kept CRLS Sailing from practicing with more than one member in a boat, and also from using faster, more difficult-to-control ‘420’ sailboats due to the fear that capsizing would not easily be dealt with in a pandemic. Captain Gonzalo Anyosa-Galvez ’21 commented on the restrictions put in place: “[Sailing] isn’t really high intensity, so the mask doesn’t really bother me, and [the season] is just the same thing with a mask. To be honest, I am getting to do a sport in a pandemic, I’m grateful for that.” Anyosa-Galves’ appreciation is a feeling that was shared by many on the Sailing team and throughout CRLS’ fall sports teams. Although Anyosa-Galves was rather disappointed about the inability to use the faster ‘420s,’ he is hopeful that in the spring—when the sailing team normally competes against other schools—restrictions will be eased up.
