Fall Sports Review 2020
Graham Quigley, Sports Editor
Note: Football, Girls Volleyball, and Competitive Cheer were not conducted this fall in light of COVID-19 restrictions. The teams are looking towards possibly playing in the Fall II season created by the MIAA that would run from the end of February to the middle of April.
Boys Soccer
The CRLS Boys Varsity Soccer team had its most successful season to date since joining the DCL in 2014. The team finished its season with a 4-1-3 mark, going undefeated after dropping its first game to a strong Bedford side. After a 2019 season in which the team made it to the state playoffs for the first time since joining the league (losing to a state semifinalist Lincoln-Sudbury squad), the tea...
Girls Soccer
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRLS Girls Varsity soccer team, like all fall sports teams, was forced to play in the Dual County Small this year—a league in which the team certainly found greater success in. During the 2019 fall season, the girls team finished with a 4-13-1 record while playing in the DCL Large, and although their 1-3-3 record this year was by no means perfect, the record demon...
Boys Cross Country
This year’s CRLS Boys Varsity Cross Country season was one of the most successful in recent memory. The team as a collective had a 4-0 record, and capped off their perfect season with a first place finish at the DCL Small championship meet. The team was led by five seniors—Eben Lowenstein, Zan Rice, Oscar Benedek, Jonah Jaffee and Keegan Harkavy—and junior standout Chris Gould. For many of the ru...
Girls Cross Country
The Girls Varsity Cross Country team finished the season with a second place finish in the DCL Small Championship meet—a great result to conclude a 1-2 regular season record. The team was led by senior captain Sophia Price; the senior runner finished the season winning every single meet she ran in, including the league meet. Despite some disappointment in the restrictions and shortened nature of the sea...
Boys Crew
The CRLS Boys Varsity crew team and its athletes spent much of their time this fall practicing alongside their female counterparts. The precautions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the two teams to form co-ed pods of athletes who trained together daily—virtually or in person depending on the week’s schedule. The restrictions put in place were purposefully strict and left on...
Girls Crew
The Girls Varsity Crew 2020 season was one like no other. With the COVID-19 pandemic halting in-person meets, and on water training restricted to scull-only (one person per boat), the Falcons crew team was forced to transform their training. The team was split up into training cohorts, and for varsity, each cohort only received one week of on-water training and two weeks of in-person erging (rowing on ...
Sailing
This fall, the CRLS co-ed Sailing team, similar to all CRLS fall sports teams, was forced to adapt in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions put in place by the city kept CRLS Sailing from practicing with more than one member in a boat, and also from using faster, more difficult-to-control ‘420’ sailboats due to the fear that capsizing would not easily be dealt with in a pandemic. Captain Gon...
