I Had A Dream

I had a dream to

Become the next Michael Phelps.

I trained and trained

Harder than before

To decrease my times;

To blow their minds.

I had a dream.

But one day,

My inner critic came

Knocking at my door.

Looking like my friend;

Sounding like my father;

Spewing insults like a bully.

I had a dream.

Words flowed out of his mouth

Like water flows from

A river to a lake.

Words flowed out of his mouth

Stuff he knew

That I could not take.

Words flowed out of his mouth

Insults that would

Soon make me break.

I had a dream.

Even though I wanted to stay positive,

I knew it was true.

I knew I wasn’t good enough and

There’s nothing that I could ever do.

I had a dream.

A dream to

Be remembered.

I had a dream.

But then

I woke up.
