President Trump delivered remarks to the U.N. on September 25th.

Throughout the course of his presidency, Donald Trump has made countless absurd comments. However, his most recent statement of idiocy had people literally laughing.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, the entirety of the United Nations General Assembly laughed at a speech being given by President Trump. During the speech, he stated, “In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”

This boldly confident statement set off an eruption of laughter from United Nations representatives from across the globe. In response to this, the President said, “I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK.”

Based on his reaction, it seems as if Trump was genuinely shocked by the audience’s laughter. He seemed to believe that his accomplishments have been greater than any other U.S. president’s achievements.

How is it possible to disregard the actions of Abraham Lincoln, who signed into law the Thirteenth Amendment, which ultimately abolished slavery? Or Theodore Roosevelt, who gave economic hope to the United States when he put the  Square Deal in place, combatting the monopolies of large corporations in the early 1900s?

Furthermore, how could Trump forget to acknowledge the successful administration of Barack Obama? As an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Obama made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states on June 26, 2015. This led to celebrations all across the nation, as a large milestone was made for those of the LGBTQ+ community. Obama also established the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare, which provides health insurance for those who didn’t have it previously.

This recent United Nations conference has revealed just how pompous President Trump is.

By stating that he has had one of the most successful administrations in the country, Trump is discrediting all of the other presidents who have been advocates for this country, as well as disregarding the contributions of American citizens. In truth, since the start of his presidency, this nation has been in chaos as minorities attempt to keep their voices heard through organized protests and rallies.

Many in the Cambridge community have participated in the numerous protests that have happened since the 2016 election, such as the Women’s March, the March for Science, and the multiple protests against gun violence, to combat the ongoing controversies that have risen since the start of  Trump’s presidency. CRLS has held multiple walkouts to show Cambridge’s support for the gun control movement. This act alone has been a powerful one, as we united to show love overpowers hate.

Along with the history of his absurd commentary, President Trump has also started  various “Twitter wars” with many celebrities, and has lashed out on others over the social media site—including calling Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary,” Jeb Bush “Low Energy Jeb,” and even calling Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.” These Twitter wars have made it clear that Trump is not a professional individual, as the president is supposed to be.

Throughout his presidency, President Trump has acted in a juvenile and erratic manner. However, this recent United Nations conference has revealed just how pompous he is as well. The fact that Trump gives himself so much credit and does not recognize the achievements of past presidents shows that he feels that he does not owe acknowledgment to the others that have led our nation.
